Since www.ArtFRONT.com has been getting quite a few hits from people searching for "Up With The Joneses" of late I thought I'd resurrect this article from last year and add some important updated information about Chattanooga's premier party band.

Article by ~Robin Merritt from ArtFRONT's "Current Music Dynamics"

A band called

"Up With The Joneses"

Has been around for a number of years making their brand of party music synonomous with high energy fun times in "The Scenic City of the South." I would call their style of music "Speed Funk"........or something of that nature....I went to see them March 6th at "The Vineyard." It was the first time I've been to one of their shows in a couple of years and I have to say they've definitely "matured" musically and have got an iron grip on whatever it is that makes the audience want to dance. Evidence of their new maturity abounds in their sense of humour, with lyrics like "you used to swim around inside your daddy's balls" causing the audience to simultaenously dance and collapse with laughter. Their riffs are tighter than ever and front man T.J. Greever's outlandish outfits and rocking 'fro are still part of the act. But what impresses me is that these guys have been relentlessly pounding out the beats ever since they first got together some years back and I feel the time is right for them to hit the long road and bring home some fresh meat . Any relatively youthful audience who enjoys churning it up and partying down will be pleased with their infectiously energetic and good natured performance. At the end of their set they still had the audience dancing hard to the only cover song I recognized, their upbeat version of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf," which says a lot about their ability to infuse the funk into any situation.

Since that show natives of the Joneses hometown have been aware of the near tragic Car crash that almost put front man T.J. Greever on permanent skids. But with a good fighting spirit and unwillingness to take any slack from the local medical establishment T.J. and the band have returned to the stage in a comeback performance on Jan.28 2005. This was a near full house performance at Chattanooga's "Rhythm & Brews" and T.J. demonstrated his return to the arena with a few flailing leaps, undying gratitude to his friends and fans and the declaration that he's no longer "Mr. Spleen." The music this time around was a bit down tempo from previous shows that I've seen. Opening up with drama, fog and a cover of a Pink Floyd Anthem from "The Wall." After the show, band members told me that their next performance will be in Nashville in Feb. and My main interest was in finding out how they were set for any upcoming tours. They were enthusiastic about their readiness to get back on the road but as of the moment not much info is available on solid dates. ArtFRONT will be keeping tabs on these fine young freaks and hopefully they will soon have their web site http://www.upwiththejoneses.com/ back up with information telling You when and where to expect an appearance. In the meantime You can send a note to with any requests or info on booking and recordings etc. and we will pass it along to the band, their management or the place where they get all their pizza.
