Little Country Giants with W.B. Givens and The Kid Carsons Friday August 17 2012 8pm at Barking Legs Theater in Chattanooga TN
One of the most profoundly genuine Americana groups in the country. The brilliant melodic songwriting and vocals of Cameron Federal Cook and husband Russel Cook. One of the earlier discoveries and offerings of the ArtFRONT concert series, The Little Country Giants still boast the largest attended show we have produced at Barking Legs, outdoing even Kaki King in attendance. Celebrating the release of their new CD 60 Grit This return performance comes after the family took the opportunity to raise babies, teach school and continue to distill their familial harmonies and song crafting expertise. There is no influence they have had to reach outside the southern hills for, no reason whatsoever to struggle to find an outside inspiration. Their talent is so natural that it brings chills to the listener as they are absorbed completely into the true purpose of music whenever the Little Country Giants are on a roll either onstage or in the totality of the craftsmanship of their recordings. Please visit the link to our press release for full information and links to each musicians online music. This show is all ages friendly. Admission is $12.

The Bowmans with Angel Snow Saturday March 21 2009 8pm at Barking Legs Theater in Chattanooga TN
One of the most powerful yet gentle stage presentations on tour. The Bowman twins are Claire Bowman on vocals and various percussion and Sarah Bowman on guitar and vocals. The duo successfully exploits the twin sister harmonies by combining their near telepathic soulfulness with universally understood, down to earth lyric storytelling. Their second full length CD was just completed under the production of Malcolm Burn, Grammy winning producer of Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris. Angel Snow is winner of the top prize in Eddies Attic Open Mic Shootout XXIX, Atlanta talent showcase in front of a sold-out room of music industry professionals and fans. Previous winners include John Mayer and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland. Recent performances by Angel Snow have been stirring up regional press and entertainment writers acrosss the southeast. Sideman Jason Goforth adds a very atmospheric steel guitar backup, making the performance much more captivating and beyond-traditional for a singer songwriter with southern roots.

"Current Music Dynamics"
New information on creative, up & coming recording & performing artists who we have experienced and are impressed with enough to listen to, write about, and promote. We are looking the world over for new mostly unsigned talent that DESERVES to be heard by You. We showcase these emerging performers alongside some of the most exciting & impressive veteran performers who are recording and performing today.
The Bridges, Oxford AL power pop group Article and interview.
In the tradition of some of the most successful family musical units of the last century, the Bridges initial knockout punch consists of their incredible vocal harmonies which blend together in a manner only genetic predetermination can produce. The Bridges have been tapped for production by Matthew Sweet, who is wrapping up mastering their newest E.P. in his Los Angeles studio where they recorded during the last week of Sept. 06.

No River City was a part of the largest attended ArtFRONT Show to date and have made instant fans in Chattanooga at their earlier performance here with Little Country Giants. You can say it's just my opinion but I've been to a LOT of shows this past year, every conceivable style of music from metal to country to techno to punk and right now it's got to be Americana style ensemble 'The Everybodyfields' Who are giving the most impressive performances and songwriting at the moment. Now Featured in 'The Listening Room.'

ArtFRONT presents SAMANTHA MURPHY at Barking Legs Theatre in Chattanooga, TN 37404.
Samantha is one of my top finds since beginning to scour the music scene for relatively unknown artists with high levels of talent. Between her regular gigs at L.A. music showcase, The Mint. Her regular podcast on www.SamanthaMurphy.com and her songwriting, she has found time to appear on The Tonight Show, Be Sponsored by Gibson Guitars and put together one of the finest pop female vocal CDs of the past few years. Samantha has a spectacular voice and every time I listen to her new CD I keep being amazed at just how enjoyable it is. The Songs on Somewhere between Starving and Stardom chronicle the joys and challenges that anyone who has ever tried to live a creative lifestyle in this country can strongly relate to. Her approach is always upbeat in a way that shows off sparkling talent rather than lamenting over the hardships facing creative artists in our over commercialized music environment. Samantha is gracious enough to come and play for us here in Chattanooga on Saturday Sept. 24 in a solo performance along with Justin Karpinos at Barking Legs, and again on Oct. 15, along with Jennifer Brantley and The Little Country Giants at The Barking legs theatre.

Concert review, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Mar.19 Atlanta GA at Earthlink Live
QOTSA It's hard to find anyone playing music on this sonic level who can hold it in the road for an entire show, much less reach the plateaus that were heard from time to time that evening. If every song in this concert were played as well as the best ones were, this show would have been heavenly. It would have been TOO good, and those in attendance would have been affected in a way that they may have never gotten over....
Nora O'Connor Concert Review, Chattanoga's Barking Legs Theatre Mar.12 2005
If You're looking for a good mellow show in some small intimate venue and Nora O'Conner comes along You can't go wrong with her. I had a front row seat for this show ...
Great New Band "8mm"
NIN and Manson producer Sean Beavan and wife Juliette have formed "8mm" An elegant downtempo trip-hop ensemble that is reminiscent of Morecheeba with Nina Gordon sitting in. If You can't make it to L.A. for their upcoming shows then You can still go to their fabulous website, www.8mmaudio.com and listen to their music stream...
We only write up concerts that we have enjoyed or been otherwise impressed with, no scathing reviews of shows that bombed.....Updated whenever someone really good comes along. Currently featuring,QOTSA,Queens of The Stone Age, Nora O'Connor, Neko Case,Tift Merritt, Andrew Bird, Freekbass, Leticia Wolf, Buckethead, The Crystal Method, J. Roddy Walston and the Business, Infradig....... if You are interested in submitting concert reviews to ArtFRONT, We are looking for new, up & coming artists that seem to be having an influence on the direction today's music is going. As well as artists who are just starting out and show great promise. We want to hear about the concerts that You feel were really special and that You are excited enough to spread the word about. All musical styles considered.
Neko Case Concert Review Feb.19,2005 The Variety Playhouse, Atlanta GA
Neko Case has possibly the most distinctive sounding voice in contemporary American pop, rock, country, girl power today.... The vocal quality of this performance was probably the best I've seen in a concert performance in recent memory and she's looking like a rock n roller's dream girl on stage with her white Gibson SG. "The Tigers Have Spoken" by Neko Case is one of the stellar live recordings of the year. Seeing this performance brought it to life in a vibrant spectacle that bowled over and wowed the Atlanta crowd...

Music Industry article: "Why Artists & Musicians need to release free singles."
At this point in history it's imperative that any band that has a CD out pick at least a couple of songs for release to be played to the public for free. For each new CD that's released the artists/producers/labels should select one or two songs which they consider to be their most accessable "Radio" songs. Once selected these songs should be made available to every conceivable broadcast outlet on the planet, including radio stations and internet web cast sites.

"Freekbass is the new spiritual warrior for the Funk." ~ Bootsy Collins
Freekbass is a 7 piece all out funk ensemble led by Chris Sherman who is the "Freekbass." Named as such by his mentor & record producer Bootsy Collins. This is the band that carries on the funk tradition of the most upbeat dance music of James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic and of course Bootsy, and they do it with an original and highly recognizable style. There's a showy hard rocking edge to this Cincinnati outfit
"J.Roddy Walston & The Business"
J.Roddy and The Business have a new 5 song E.P. called "LMNEP." Released February 2005 and now available at their performances.. After giving it 3 or 4 listens I'm beginning to like it better than the earlier CD "Here Come Trouble."
"J.Roddy Walston & The Business"
NEW PRESS LINKS ADDED. NOW there is even more press on J.Roddy coming out of Baltimore. This time a full featured interview with the band by J. Bowers. So read these articles and try to catch one of their shows! This rollicking stuff defies categories the way the latter era "Queen" songs did back in the 70's, although with way less polish. There is piano, heavy bass, guitar, cello (!) backing harmonies and quite a bit of Tom Waits style hollering, all from a very upbeat and youthful vantage point. Like maybe if the "Crash Test Dummies" were rockin' & happy & fun? They've recently moved to Baltimore... ***Featured in "The Listening Room."***
Sista Otis & The Wholly Rollers
2004 DETROIT MUSIC AWARDS: OUTSTANDING ROCK/POP RECORDING OUTSTANDING URBAN/FUNK HIP-HOP RECORDING . She has a magnetic spiritual enthusiasm and a voice that positively radiates. Sista Otis and the Wholly Rollers are part of Detroit's Urban Folk movement. A style which draws on the city's eclectic Motown, hip hop R& B & funk -rock heritage. And they can rock! And she can sing, and the drummers can drum and their new CD is called "Worldwide Release." If You are a club owner lucky enough to have these folks play, for God's sake get your sound system in good enough shape to handle a real rock n roll band, cause these folks deserve to be heard clearly.
If You are a fan of straightforward & melodious female acoustic singer songwriters with pretty voices and interesting lyrics, these girls should be playing on your CD early in the morning or late at night, or whenever you want to enjoy relaxing music that also makes You think about life a bit. Jennifer Daniels has a following in the Southeast, Audra Kubat has a following in Detroit and Jane Weaver is a classic heart-throb in Manchester England, While Tift Merritt brings beauty back into female country vocals.
Jane Weaver, ArtFRONT's Current Top Pick for "Singer Songwriter"
***Featured in "The Listening Room."*** I'm feeling the star presence shine. Maybe if Nick Drake came back as a girl, with all new material, sonically influenced by experiences in the great beyond? The snippets I caught of Jane Weaver's songs from her last CD titled "Like an Aspen Leaf" on WUTC FM were enough to send me on a search for as much of her music as I could find. She is also the front vocalist and main songwriter for a band called "Misty Dixon."
She's regularly playing in the region all the way from South Carolina throughout Georgia, Tennessee & Virginia. Her Current concert listing is updated....
Tift Merritt, is ArtFRONT's current Top pick for live performance.
***Featured in "The Listening Room." *** Tift Merritt gets my nomination for the best female vocalist who is performing REAL country flavored modern music. Tift Merritt has a new CD "Tambourine" Which is briefly Reviewed here. Also see our Concert Review For Tift Merritt's recent Nashville TN performance.
Audra Kubat has released a new CD titled "Million Year Old Sand."
One reviewer who saw Audra at the Austin TX, SxSW festival described her as brilliant and pitied any band that played after her set because he couldn't imagine anyone giving the audience the kind of charge she did. She is also a regular nominee for handfuls of Detroit Music Awards.
"LO-HI" ***Featured in "The Listening Room."***
Hollis Queens has her home base in New York City along with her band called "Lo-Hi." She is a punk rock banshee who absolutely kicks ass. The music is really high tone gurly punk, (even though their press release says it's "pop-rock," I say it's punk!) The guys in Lo-Hi play some really tight, cranked up hard edged guitar. (This band is partly made up from members of "Boss Hog,")
"Brad Sucks" ArtFRONT's Top pick for "Recording Artist."
"Brad Sucks is a one-man band who writes, records, mixes and distributes his music from his home in Ottawa, Canada. Dripping with grooves, a vivid lyrical style, and an incredibly catchy pop sensibility, Brad's music has been likened to that of Beck, Moby, Folk Implosion and John Vanderslice. Very professional debut album, he should have more fans." There's a lot of information on his website. You can listen and download all his music for free there, digital source code geeks and re-mixers will be in heaven...
The "Nerdcore" movement
It's apparent that there are people out there trying to start a movement.... Check into this portal that will lead You into the current workings of this grass roots post punk-pop musical underground trend that threatens to pick up more steam every day...
"Lerch" is a very wacky, yet serious "nerdcore" band from Chattanooga TN
They have some excellent young recording techs from the MTSU recording cabal working with them.. ( MTSU, a state university just south of Nashville with a big recording industry curriculum.) Their beautifully hand made EP "Searching for the Crank Tank" Starts out sounding like "Primus" but progresses through several different heavy styles.
MC Frontalot, "Nerdcore Hip-Hop?" ***Featured in The Listening Room***
MC Frontalot., isn't what I would've branded "nerdcore" but he sure claims he is, over & over in his music which I won't call just "rap" because it's way too musical, and the home made digital production is top notch. It's a hoot & well worth a listen. Someone I turned on to MC Frontalot said it sounds like if Zappa were a rapper. This proves that white people can be funny & have serious rhythm too.
G.F.E. Granola Funk Express
GFE is more serious, style & socially conscious than MC Frontalot and obsessive over their particular brand of space age spirituality. G.F.E .,which also stands for "God Force Energy" amongst many other things is a REAL touring band with drums, guitars, & horns as well as the large posse of hip hop DJ and rapper personas who take turns dishing out the jams. Rumor has it they recently shared the stage with George Clinton in New Orleans who also appears on their newest CD "Bigger than it Really Is"
